My early work career was spent as a slug. This does NOT mean I was lazy. I
worked hard but I wasn't contributing as much as I could; as much as I had to
give. It dragged me down and it was depressing.
Why did I feel that way?
Because I really didn't fit in. The work didn't align with my needs, desires,
and talents. And it took me longer than I care to admit to figure that
out.
Time and time again I had a feeling in my gut I was destined for
greatness. I just needed the opportunity. I knew deep inside I had a lot to
contribute but I just hadn't found "how" to do it.
Then about ten years
ago I met a man who became a mentor and also gave me the opportunity I was
seeking. But first he insisted that I spend a couple years in front-line
sales.
After that "in the trenches" learning experience I went to work
for my mentor in the shipping department of his business development company.
Steadily I worked up through customer service and a few other departments. My
last two years were as the vice president of operations.
While there I
also studied the products we were selling for my own benefit and personal
growth.
That marvelous experience gave me the grassroots, savvy, and
confidence to go out on my own. It gave me the confidence to create
MotivationInAMinute.com and now MyInspiration4Life.com.
Now
I know my career is perfectly aligned with my desires, needs, and natural
talents.
Today, and all along my way to this point, I feel a "release"
whenever I help someone. Even as a kid I was jumping in to help the underdog. I
thrive on helping you make that first step ' whatever it is ' that gets you
closer to living your dreams.
Whenever I see someone conform to "average"
just because they don't think they can do it . . . I'm profoundly saddened. I'm
not exaggerating! I want to help you find the courage and the belief to DO IT.
To ignore the naysayers.
I love the sciences, I majored in Physics in college until I fell in love with Computer Science, switched my major and graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science.
I made my first inspirational movie when I was assigned a history project in the sixth grade to make a video about historical figures. The assignment was to make a video with facts about five U.S. Presidents such as when they lived, their occupation, which President they were and what their Presidency was known for. However, my video was more about the things they had done to impact history.
Looking back, I was too young to understand, but really what I learned was how they had inspired people and that was what made them a figure to be remembered, not which president they were. I failed the assignment because I did not include the dates they lived and what president they were but it was a turning point in my life as to how I viewed the world. Since then I have spent, and will continue to spend, my days wondering what I can do to inspire people and make the world a better place.
After partnering up with Doug to make one of the most viral inspirational videos of all time, "Life is like Coffee," we realized we had the tools to inspire millions through short motivational and inspirational videos. Since then we have built the biggest library of motivational and inspirational videos that have been viewed tens of millions of times.
I know now this is what I was meant to do. I love making the movies. As we come up with new ideas to motivate and inspire others, it motivates and inspires me. What more can one ask for?
